ASTRONOMICAL OVERVIEW

Holon Temple takes in mind the cosmos and site specific astronomical information to be fully integrated into its design. The entrances to the Temple represent the cardinal directions and is based on the geometrical setup of Black Rock City, but are also aligned with the positions of stars and planets during the Event.

 

The 2020 Black Rock City Event will be from 08.30 to 09.07, during these week the sun will rise in the west, aligning with the west entrance and it will set in the East. Having the moon coming from the East and setting at the West.

 

Every day of the week, after sunset, the star of Arcturus and the star of Spica will be visible from the West.  Arcturus, α Boötis, is the brightest star in the constellation of Boötes and the brightest star in the northern celestial hemisphere and Spica, α Virginis, is the brightest star in the constellation of Virgo.
